Dental Implant Information

Dental implants are the premier replacement of teeth and are indicated for teeth that are missing, or for teeth that have been broken down due to decay, gum disease, or trauma. Dental implants have been proven to be a predictable method for the replacement of missing teeth and have been shown to have a high success rate when placed properly and with proper planning.

Dental implants look, feel and function like natural teeth, with the added benefit of preserving bone in the area they were placed and reducing the chance of bone loss.

If you have one or more missing teeth, Dental implants have many advantages over a bridge or removable partial and denture.

  • Conservative – When replacing single teeth, dental implants function like an individual unit. So neighboring teeth next to a missing area do not have to be altered or drilled down in order to make room for a bridge. More of your teeth are left untouched, which is a long term benefit to your oral health.
  • Confidence – Since dental implants function like natural teeth and are not removable, they will allow you to speak and eat with comfort and confidence again! No more worrying about uncomfortable partials, loose dentures or denture adhesive

Dental implants look, feel and function just like real teeth because they replace the missing root which had been previously removed. After the implant has had time to integrate, a connection piece, or abutment, is placed onto the dental implant and then a crown is placed onto the connection piece (abutment). They can be used to replace single, multiple, and even a full arch of teeth.

Dr. Kim will evaluate your Complimentary 3-D CT scan findings with you and give you an honest assessment. Based upon your needs, expectations and budget he will review your options from the very simple to the most complex, in a hassle free, no pressure manner.

How does the dental implant process work?

The process begins with a simple consultation and a 3D-CT scan. During the consultation, Dr. Kim will evaluate your scan with you, then “virtually” plan the ideal position of the dental implant in relation to the other teeth and most importantly, making sure to avoid any vital structures, such as nerves and the sinus.

Through this technology, since the implants are “virtually” placed before the actual procedure has even taken place, the planned position can be duplicated with a computer generated surgical guide. This surgical guide will then guide the implant safely into place significantly reducing surgical time and often without the need for any incisions or even sutures. The overall benefit is a very safe, well-planned and executed implant with minimal post-operative discomfort.

Is there a difference between dental implant in the front or the back of the mouth?

There is a huge difference between dental implants placed in the front and for them placed in the back. When placed in the back, dental implants must be functional but not as aesthetic looking since they are not really seen by other people. However, when replacing teeth in the front with dental implants and especially the teeth in the center, having dental implants placed in the right position and having a crown placed which looks like a natural tooth and not a fake “white” tooth is absolutely crucial to the look of your overall smile. Because of Dr. Kim’s Advanced knowledge of Cosmetic Dentistry and Dental Implant Surgery he is able to provide World Class Dental Implant Esthetics under one roof.
